The objective of the Downtown Market Analyses Program is to provide communities with a realistic economic snapshot of what their historic downtown or traditional neighborhood commercial district can support in the areas of commercial goods and services as well as gauge the potential for additional residential development. Downtown Market Analyses are done on a continuous basis. Please contact the Michigan Main Street Center (MMSC) @ MSHDA at info@michiganmainstreetcenter.org for more information.
What Is a "Historic Downtown" or "Traditional Neighborhood Commercial District"
A historic downtown or traditional neighborhood commercial district must consist of a contiguous grouping of 20 or more zoned-commercial parcels of property with 75% or more of all parcels in the district having: existing buildings with architectural or historical (more than 50 years old) significance, zero lot-line development (buildings directly adjacent to the sidewalk) and pedestrian-friendly infrastructure.
