A funny thing hit me the other day. I was reading some article or another about a group that was opposing the demolition of a building in a historic part of their town. (Unfortunately, it’s an all too common occurrence these days, which sometimes makes the articles blur together.) The funny thing wasn’t the protest or even the demolition. For some reason the thought of the demolition of part of Genesee Valley Shopping Center a few years ago jumped in my head.

Last week, I was lucky enough to attend a board training put on by the Land Trust Alliance. The training and trainer came highly recommended by Michigan Main Street Advisory Committee member, Nancy Finegood. As someone who regularly trains Selected and Master Level Michigan Main Street boards, I figured I would go to observe how other people conduct board training and see if I could add any tips to my current board training repertoire.

As followers of this blog know, from time to time we have guest bloggers. This week, we were scheduled to have Niles Main Street Manager Lisa Croteau featured as a guest blogger.
